It occurred to me that some people don’t know how to wear some of today’s trends. So here’s a little help:
Wedge sandals – Be they espradilles, or open-toed, wedges are best worn with skirts at or above the knee or capri pants. They can be worn with long pants, but look a little ’70s. Also be aware that they are generally a more casual or semi-casual shoe.
Wide-leg pants – Best worn long (the hem should nearly touch the floor) with point-toed pumps or flats. Slightly more formal than regular trousers or jeans.
Skinny pants – Full-lenth skinny pants (in my opinion) should never be worn. But skinny, legging-type capris look great with fuller tops (like a blouse or not skin-tight tee shirt) and either cute ballet flats, pumps, or wedges. Keep in mind that the smaller you are, the easier it is to wear small clothing. And vice versa.
Knee-length boots – Wear them with at or above the knee skirts, over skinny jeans, or under boot-cut or trouser jeans. Can also be worn with the new “dressy” and often menswear-style tailored gauchos (NEVER with the knit gauchos!), but keep in mind that the look is a little young.
Tailored gauchos – Wear them with pumps or boots to dress them up. Otherwise they end up looking like you stole your grandpa’s bermuda shorts. Pair them with tailored blouses, and button-down shirts.
The super-wide belt – Wear it over a cardigan, blouse, or jacket to cinch in the waist for a high-fashion look, or slung low on the hips over a longer tee shirt for a younger look.
